Microsoft Outlook creates PST files for storing the various Outlook attributes like email, contacts, journals, calendar etc. The various Outlook versions are 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2010. The location of Outlook data file depends upon the operating system version. In Windows older version (i.e. 98, ME) the default location of PST file is C:\Windows\Application Data, for Windows XP/2000 the location of Personal Storage Table file is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook vista 7 for Windows Vista & 7. The size of the PST file varies for different versions of Outlook. The maximum size of PST file prior to Outlook 2003 is 2GB. In Outlook 2003 and 2007, 20GB is thedefault maximum size of PST file and Outlook 2010's default maximum PST file size has increased to 50GB.
Some major reasons which causes the PST files corruption are discussed below:

Step 1:Download and install the trial version of Outlook PST Repair tool. Run the software, you will see three options "Open PST File", "Find PST File”, and "Select Outlook Profile" as shown in Figure 1

Step 2: Since you want to fix the corrupt PST file select "Open PST File" if you know the location or select "Find PST File" to search the location. Click on "Browse" button and select the location of PST File. After selecting PST file click "Next" as shown in Figure 2

Step 3: It displays two options “Normal Scan” and “Smart Scan” choose the scanning method and select destination location to store the new PST file. To initiate the scanning process click on "Repair" button as shown in Figure 3

Step 4: Once scanning is over preview the recovered inbox emails and other data in Outlook style browser view to evaluate the recovery results. If satisfied with the recovery results then you can purchase the software.
